FBF Followup

Introducing the discerning, dev-stalking Dane Koster, who watched FBF live with people all over the world! We go now to his summary.

Feedback...

RE Mailbag!

- Traveling costs are getting modified.

-They were planning to redraw a few mice, like the Grey and Brown mice. But they wanted to ask our opinion on the map style. We generally like it.

-Potions affecting things other than cheese? It's possible but they don't know what to do with it. Maybe use a potion of strengthening on another potion to make it stronger. (Editor’s note: Can we use Potions of Strengthening on Potions of Strengthening on Potions of Strengthening...)

-Digby Dirt Dwellers is their tentative name for the new Digby mice... In Longtail, anyway.

-They want to make more elaborate scoreboards, with all sorts of info (How often you've missed a certain mouse in the meadow could be displayed, by the way). They can also bring back the "Heaviest Catch" statistic.

Mailbag! (Just how many Mailbags do these people have?)

They're not going to weigh into the Luck vs Power equation. It's up to us which way we want to go. Dave has seen the luck equations MH Analytics has come up with, and he says... Nothing about it. (Editor’s note: Conspiracy theorists, attack!)

Is the Ticker too full of goodness? Should they change it?

Event mice are currently rigged to be accessible to all players, so they've always been in novice locations. They might change things a bit since they are rejigging the Power types into 'Groups'

New stales are always a possibility. Converting types of stales is not likely. There might be a more fun way get stale cheese in the pipeline.

Chrome Nannybot is smashable in case people want to earn a buck by selling its components, rather than having the limited-edition trap.

Random Qs?

How can Nannybot be a Shadow trap? It makes total sense to them!

Can you turn down my DHU? Franco's got a dial on his desk, but he can only turn it up.

They wanted a humane trap to go after the Terrible Twos mouse, so that you weren't splatting the virtual critter with your Spiked Crusher.

What region do they like to hunt in? Franco likes Furoma. Dave likes to float around, and move whenever he gets bored of hunting there.

Dave fixed the Harpy.

Will you consider making a board game? They've got ideas, but they don't know how feasible it is. And if you know a way to work it contact the devs!

T-shirt winners were chosen. Originally there were gonna be 3, then there were 6, and then there were 8. That's a lot of winners!

Dave leaves. Franco is ready for spoilers!

Franco says the iPhone app will be ready almost immediately after Longtail.

Dave's back! Time for the ACTUAL Mailbag!

They show 3 cards they recently got. They're super-cool. All that jazz. And they say thanks. Dave wants to make a collage.

Longtail Q and A.

Can you force a Hunter's log? They were considering having 24-hour logs instead, so you can set goals for today against yesterday.

Polar base is uploaded in its original form again, restored to its puddle-y glory.

Will there be more scoreboards? Yes. Not on the initial launch, but it's in their future plans. Rank yourself according to white mouse catches!

Will that rank for a given mouse show on your profile? Maybe... But it might be harder than you think.

Droid app is likely... IF the iPhone app is successful.

Will Longtail provide ways to deal with scripters better? Yes, but they're still happy with what they've got. And no, you can't find out how they track these things.

Franco signs off now. Happy Easter!

(Editor’s note: At this point, the ink on the parchment starts to run. Perhaps Dane drools when he sleeps?)

Franco will buy Portal 2. (Editor’s note: So will the cake still be a lie?)
Iphone app cost, dunno.
Radioactive sludge in mysterious box.
Longtail preview will happen.
Silth is meant to be tough to attract.
Noon dev time on 31st was when the drops stopped for Chrome Nannybot.
Longtail beta is sometime in April.
Keep your Facebook stuff secure! Then you won't get hacked.
How many devs on the team? 6 guys programming, and an artist and a half.
Collage is planned.
Return of Master Burglar is planned. He's stealthy, they can't get a hold of him.
Nothing special is needed on our side to convert from MH 2.0 to 3.0
Limited Edition traps will not be sellable. Unique traps for donations only are being considered, but not seriously.
Redrawn mice will "pop". (Editor’s note: Huh?)
New HERO and above release is planned for 3rd content release after Longtail.
Feedback Friday Night will only happen spontaneously.
New page for FBF from within the app might make a ticker automatically appear. (Editor’s note: Finally!)
How much do new tees cost? Dunno.
New stuff in the trading system? Maybe stale cheese or sludge, but currently just SB+.
They do plan to revisit older cheese.

They're trying to set Franco's laptop up and attach it to the TV and then show that on the stream. For a sneak peek!

How long until that 3rd release? One of the things they've worked on is streamlining the process of uploading new mice to the game. They can finish things in hours now that used to take days. They're planning to have at least 1 "significant" content update every month in Longtail.

Just a reminder, the devs are NOT introducing a Harvester's Horn.

Shadow traps are meant to be expensive.

Digby scientists are still hard at work figuring a way to get to the depths of the lagoon. (Editor’s note: Why not use a yellow submarine named the USS Lennon?)

Ronza's here right now. Close the chat! Go back to MouseHunt! See her now!

Just kidding.

Yes, the devs are working on Longtail on Good Friday. They're crazy addicts that way.

Yes, there are plans to go beyond the lagoon, in case that giant hint attached to the Silth mouse wasn't enough of a clue.

Probably getting a iPad somewhere in the office. Joel, most likely, since he's a giant Apple fanboy.

Zooming in for a Longtail preview on the TV. Technical difficulties abound. Tons of glare. They're going on a big quest to block the glare with a big blankie.

Now, in stunning lo-def, here's a preview.

Hunter Profile Page. It's tabbed. You can see specific stats for mice caught in specific locations. Missed, too. You can see the collection of bases and traps, too.

On a horn sound, points go up right away. So do gold.

Inventory is tabbed. Traps and bases are sub-tabbed. There's a Plankrun tab.

Travel page... Is broken. And it's tabbed! Hooray for finding a Longtail bug right during FBF!

A better sneak peek is planned for later.

Random Q from Franco: Should he attempt to rival Giorgio's beard?

Thanks for stopping by. They plan on returning later today for another video session.

Their plan for the Stockade. Instead of a hunter's horn, you have a tin cup that you ring against the bars. And catch nothing.

At the end, Dave switches to hi-def and shows his random faces.

Followup to April Fools’ Day

Gnawville - Busted.

If you've played that game by Zynga involving a great deal of back-breaking manual labor, you'll know what the devs are talking about when they say Gnawville. If you have friends who play it, chances are, you'll also see Mr Moo, the cow, wander into your news feed, asking you to read its collar and send it back to the slaughterhouse.

Albino Plains - Busted.

Albino means that something is white. Is the edges of the map white? Yes, it is. The devs are just pulling your legs, or your hands, or your thumb when they said there was a white area.

Invisible Trap/Mouse - Confirmed/Busted.

These aren't going into the game. Therefore, it is busted.

But wait! This is a trap! The devs are using png!

*brief pause for the majority who aren't computer geeks/experts*

png allows you to make things transparent.

Therefore, if you open these images in any image editing software, the silhouette will appear.

Moving on to the developer's favorite mice from the Random Mouse Generator, they too are real images, but they are Easter Eggs. Go ahead, go to the first mouse's name or the the second mouse

Yes, that was a Rickroll. Moving on...

... to yesterday's Nibbler, we have the Shadow Mouse. Refer to this reporter's comments on the Invisible Mouse.

And, we have Paul's Musketeer, or as this troper Mousehunter prefers to call it, Mouseketeer Mouse. Remember the motto?

One four all, and all four one

That is a reference to the date: April 1st. 01/04 all, all 04/01. See? Paul even thought of those using DD/MM, and those using MM/DD. How thoughtful...

What about the new Rodentia area? That too, is fake. Mainly because this was photoshopped by a bored Merrkat who said so in the Grotto.

And the thing about Ronza in Section 3? Oh... that was nothing.

Seriously. That wasn’t a spoiler leaked by the devs, only to be announced by the Nibbler, which is not a propaganda-spreading machine created by the devs using a bunch of fake accounts run by Nigerians held in the Hitgrab Dungeon.

I said too much, didn’t I?

Quote of the Day
What did you do? Hit one of their Grandma's with a car or something?

From a guy named Joseph in another C&W thread. Don't ask for the context.

Ashley, Lord Nibbler's Secretary
So far, so good, and don't forget to sound the horn!
